A Pellegrino in Venice

Ciao! I have been busy the last few weeks, in Venice taking part in an amazing Contemporary Art course run by the European Cultural Academy, @eca.venice. I was lucky enough to receive a scholarship to attend the course

I arrived in Venice in the wee hours on the 17 July, armed with my project idea and little else (including no geographical awareness, no internet, no phone charger but i did have a suitcase crammed full of dresses that would be worn more in 2 weeks than in 2 years of any UK summer). In short I had no idea of what to expect.

Well my project idea developed in ways I would never have imagined, I met some hugely talented artists who are now dear friends, I saw some inspiring art at the Biennale and in the everday of Venice, I melted my way through 7 of the hottest days in 100 years of Venice history and I managed to connect to some internet

Most of all I am back with some exciting developments in my project and I cant wait to share them with you over the next few weeks and months.

My project now stems from one of my recent textile banners, 'Fit in at all costs' and has flown from there to tell real stories of human migration using family stories and photographs, creating textile pieces that incorporate techniques tradionally considered 'womens work'. What lies at the core of this project is the intention to ᴛᴀᴋᴇ ᴜᴘ sᴘᴀᴄᴇ .

Allora, it's time to get back to work xx
